Makeup Advice?

Salam 3alaikum sisters,

I have a question I hope you can help me with inshaAllah.

I like to wear make up in the house for my husband, but this is something that I don't have a lot of experience with. Before Islam I almost never wore make up and the three years after Islam before I got married, I only really wore make up for short periods of time for ladies gatherings or 3id.

So my question is, how do you keep your make up on all day?! It is my understanding that I've got to water to all parts of my face/skin when I make wudhu, which means the make up has to come off every time I get clean for prayers.

Is there some secret tip to this that I am missing?? I know there are ladies out there who wear make up all day, so how do you do it?? Please educate me!!

Thanks sisters <3

V is for...

very very... extra-ordinary:

not really lol, V is for...

Vulnerable:

I am not good at making myself vulnerable. Sometimes I think it is a bad thing.

For example, I am a perfectionist. If I don't think I will do something correctly, I just wont do it. Like with language, if I don't think I will say something correctly or wont have all the right words or right pronunciation, it is almost impossible to make myself say anything. I will sit and think about what I want to say over and over but never actually SAY it.

I have a problem also with asking for things that I want. Especially in relationships with people I love like my family and my husband. A part of me is always afraid they will say no or I will realize that it wasn't what I actually needed or wanted or maybe they will resent me asking or it was something that wasn't really important and I caused trouble for no reason. So I don't ask. I keep thinking it is just better all around to not ask... I am an easy going person and it is much easier for me to forget and move on than it is for the people around me alhamdulillah. I think I am completely incapable of holding a strong grudge because I just forget things so fast!

I have a hard time opening myself up in general. My feelings bruise really easily and people can hurt me without even having the intention to do it, then they feel bad because I feel bad and it becomes a huge mess...

I know in a lot of situations this is a good thing. I am not haunted by the past deeds of people around me, I am in touch with my feelings and can easily recognize my motivations, and I usually think really hard before I say anything alhamdulillah. On the other side I am impeding my own language progress and I am not always upfront about how I am feeling or what I need from people.

alhamdulillah 3la kul 7al, inshaAllah this is something I can work on. Any advice?

U is for:

Underwhelming:

This post is going to be underwhelming. It is 5:24am and I realized that I hadn't written a post yet.

I am trying really hard to actually finish this thing I promise!!!

Anyway, I guess this is a good time to tell you guys. I'm a terrible finisher. Did I already say that earlier??

I get so excited about things but at some point, I lose my steam. I start out with great intentions and millions of ideas and then.... ... .. . blah.

I am trying to work on it, as you can see here. InshaAllah it is something I will learn how to overcome in the future.

Any tips or tricks??

Thanks for bearing with me ladies, mashaAllah I admire your patience!

Marriage Advice

Salam 3alaikum sisters,

I started this blog because I needed advice and help and guidance and all of those things. My family is not muslim and I feel like I had no good example of what a marriage between Muslims should look like... What is my job? What is his job? How do I go about running a house for real not just for pretend? How do you go through your day knowing that there is someone else floating around out in the world and your job is to take care of each other and make each other happy? How do you do all of that and still make sure that Allah is your focus? How do you grow together as Muslims and help each other toward Jannah?

I am doing a lot of searching, and I'm sort of just humming a few bars and faking it for now. But I think that is how everyone does it in a way... we just learn as we go.

Anyway I found some really good advice in my search. Maybe everyone has already read it but it spoke to me so I thought I would re-post.

‘Abd al-Malik (RA) said: “When ‘Awf ibn Muhallim al-Shaybani, one of the most highly respected leaders of the Arab nobility during the jahiliyyah, married his daughter Umm Iyas to al-Harith ibn ‘Amr al-Kindi, she was made ready to be taken to the groom, then her mother, Umamah came into her, to advise her and said:
‘O my daughter, if it were deemed unnecessary to give you this advice because of good manners and noble descent, then it would have been unnecessary for you, because you posses these qualities, but it will serve as a reminder to those who are forgetful, and will help those who are wise.
‘O my daughter, if a woman were able to do without a husband by virtue of her father’s wealth and her need for her father, then you of all people would be most able to do without a husband, but women were created for men just as men were created for them.
‘O my daughter, you are about to leave the home in which you grew up, where you first learned to walk, to go to a place you do not know, to a companion to whom you are unfamiliar. By marrying you, he has become a master over you, so be like a servant to him, and he will become like a servant to you.
‘Take from me ten qualities, which will be a provision and a reminder for you.
The first and second of them are: be content in his company, and listen to and obey him, for contentment brings peace of mind, and listening to and obeying one’s husband pleases Allah.
The third and fourth of them are: make sure that you smell good and look good; he should not see anything ugly in you, and he should not smell anything but a pleasant smell from you. Kohl is the best kind of beautification to be found, and water is better than the rarest perfume.
The fifth and sixth of them are: prepare his food on time, and keep quiet when he is asleep, for raging hunger is like a burning flame, and disturbing his sleep will make him angry.
The seventh and eighth of them are: take care of his servants (or employees) and children, and take care of his wealth, for taking care of his wealth shows that you appreciate him, and taking care of his children and servants shows good management.
The ninth and tenth of them are: never disclose any of his secrets, and never disobey any of his orders, for if you disclose any of his secrets you will never feel safe from his possible betrayal, and if you disobey him, his heart will be filled with hatred towards you.
‘Be careful, O my daughter, of showing joy in front of him when he is upset, and do not show sorrow in front of him when he is happy, because the former shows a lack of judgment whilst the latter will make him unhappy.
‘Show him as much honor and respect as you can, and agree with him as much as you can, so that he will enjoy your companionship and conversation.
‘Know, O my daughter, that you will not achieve what you would like to until you put his pleasure before your own, and his wishes before yours, in whatever you like and dislike. And may Allah choose what is best for you and protect you.”

Housework

Salam 3alaikum ladies,

Alhamdulillah I'm back home now! As you can imagine in had quite a bit of housework waiting for me. Packing always seems to leave the house in a huge mess...

It got me thinking that I am really not good at housework. I never had chores as a kid. We were never really home long enough to do regular cleaning. I learned how to clean, but not in any regular or scheduled sort of way.

Our cleaning always consisted of  "Oh crap, your uncle is going to be here in two days. Throw everything in the cloests/drawers/cabinets and do some dusting!!"

Anyway, for now alhamdulillah I am able to be a housewife. (Since I was young I always knew I wanted to be home for family so I am so grateful that I am able to do this.) But now I am faced with having to do regular cleaning and cooking and things that my life with my family didn't prepare me for.

My interest seems to come and go... some days I am so excited about cleaning and I will clean the whole house top to bottom and I feel so good and the house looks so nice! Maybe I will even be able to keep it up for a while. Then I will go for days and can barely get myself to wash the pan I used to make dinner, let alone all of the cups and plates and spoons.

I need to get myself more regulated because I sort of swing to the extremes. MashaAllah my husband is so patient with it and he never complains, but I feel like I can do better. This is my job after all, and it is something I should take pride in.

Any tips??? I'm feeling desperate about getting into a good schedule, but unsure how I should do that.

Truly Practicing - Any Advice?

Salam 3alaikum ya banaat,

This is a little off the topic of marriage but it is something that I'm dealing with now.

I have and have had a very strong belief in Islam that, alhamdulillah, has never faltered since the day I converted to Islam.

However the last few months I am having difficulty keeping up with all of the things that I use to do to actually practice my religion. MashaAllah I use to pray my sunnah prayers and fast regularly and constantly be reading and learning about Islam but lately my motivation seems to be getting less and it is really scaring me because I don't want to become the kind of person who talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk.

I feel like my iman (belief) is strong, I feel so convicted that Islam is the right way, but practice has become... harder.

It started when I moved back in with my parents a few months ago (who are not muslim).  Alhamdulillah it is a little better since I got married, but I still feel that I am not up to my own standards.

I think it is a test, and maybe everyone goes through this at some point, but it scares me and I want to do better inshaAllah.

Do you have any advice? What are good steps to help correct this problem? Anyone else having/had this problem?
