A New Method

Salam 3alaikum ya banaat!

I decided to try out a new method of cleaning in the kitchen and alhamdulillah it has really helped!!!

When I begin to cook, I fill a side of the sink about half way with hot soapy water. As I am cooking and I finish  using something like the cutting board or a pot, I throw it in the water. This keeps the food from drying or getting stuck.

When I have a few minutes between steps while cooking I can just wipe the thing down with a sponge or rag, rinse it, and leave it to dry.

It is so much faster and it really helps me avoid being discouraged by the huge heap of dishes in the sink after eating a meal at home... That was the worst part before. The pile would just build up and it was so difficult to get myself to actually start washing something!

I know it seems like such a small thing to be excited about but alhamdulillah it feels like a really great victory for me. I conquered my fear of dishes!!

  1. This is a good idea, I sometimes fill the sink with hot soapy water before dinner and then everyone puts their plates in. It helps especially when its like tomtato sauce or something else that's hard to wash off.

    1. yeah, i realllly hate trying to scrub stuff that is stuck on. if i see one plate with dried stuff on it, i will put off the dishes for as long as possible.

  3. I sometimes do this too, it really does help them get washed quicker and easier!
Thankyou for the comment you left on my blog :-)
I struggle to keep house plants alive (apart from aloe vera) so i gave in and dont buy them anymore!
Now is the right time of year to try to grow plants again, outside, just try it!! For me it just comes with being a housewife and mother, it just has to be done (although i do actually love gardening!) xx

    1. i thought about getting some aloe. now that it is getting a bit warmer a plant might actually survive in my house lol.

one problem is that we don't get any direct sunlight in our apartment and i'm not sure they will let me do any digging outside :-P

  4. I need to try this because I get discouraged easily. Mountain of dishes staring at me from across the kitchen...I'll get to them...

  5. Do you have a dishwasher? I have to scrub them down a bit before putting them in but, alhumdullilah, it really helps. When looking for a house to rent I told my husband I could not have a house without a dishwasher! Honestly, with my severe eczema (made worse by water, latex gloves, etc.) it was actually a reasonable request. :)

    1. i have a dishwasher but i they don't get as clean that way... i have to wash them before i put them in the dishwasher lol so i thought its not worth it. i use my dishwasher as a giant drying rack :-P

i have a problem with dry skin as well, i have keratosis pilaris so i have to moisturize like crazy after i wash. if it was our own house i might ask him to save up for a dishwasher that actually washes but we are renting this apartment and will probably be moving in a few months anyway inshaAllah.

  6. Each little victory is one to be happy about. I tend to wash as I am cooking, put hot water and washing products in pots while we are eating so after diner I am only left with plates and cutlery. It makes life easier for sure.
    Take care dear.

  7. I do this too. while i am cooking i will start to wash the used utensils... one or two occassions i needed that item again so was annoying.
But even with soaking they still need a good scrubbing otherwise i dont feel they are clean and germs are still on them. its an OCD thing... just a little thing. :/
Plus i like my dishes stacked a certain way on the drying racks, so when my husband washes dishes and does not stack like me i take over. I just can not stand it. loool a little OCD
